Where the Bison Roam

Act 1,  Scene 2,  Page 9 of 47

Inspector
Was it a bear? Were you hurt?

Fleur
No, Inspector, but I was frightened!

It was a young bison. She was only a year and a half old, but she looked huge to me! I think I scared her as much as she scared me. She was completely alone.

Inspector
Don’t bison usually stay in groups?

Bill
Mature bulls usually spend most of the year alone or with other bulls. On the other hand, young female bison usually stay within a herd. However, it’s not unusual for one to become separated from the rest of its group, although it does lessen the animal’s chances for survival.

We decided to keep track of our unexpected guest in the hope that her movements would help us understand more about bison migration patterns.
