In the beginning, the pups do not leave their den and are totally dependent on their mother for food and warmth. In fact, if she leaves for more than an hour, the pups may die from the cold! During this time, no other wolves are allowed inside the den, although they do bring food for the mother. After two or three weeks, the pups come outside for the first time and meet the rest of the wolf pack.
